An Expat Entrepreneur’s Guide to Getting an Alcohol Licence in Dubai

Unknown Reply 7:18 AM

Dubai is considered one of the best cities in the world for expat entrepreneurs. Government incentives for global companies and a straightforward business setup process make investing easier for new enterprises. Business owners also enjoy tax-free incomes, a safe urban environment, high-tech infrastructure and a vibrant culture – all of which are integral to successful business-building.

While life in this busy city can be ultra-competitive and often stressful, it’s not all work and no play in Dubai. In fact, taking time for breaks and allowing yourself to have fun once in awhile is integral to surviving its fast-moving environment. Fortunately for hardworking and fun-loving expats, the glitzy emirate has so much to offer with its dining, leisure and entertainment scene.

However, before you go around the city in search of your well-deserved drink, make sure to know and understand first the alcohol laws in Dubai. For instance, if you intend to stay and work (and have some fun) in Dubai for a while, getting an Alcohol Licence is a must.

Basic Information About Alcohol Licence Application in Dubai

To get started, take note of the following basic information on Dubai’s drinking laws:

●      Where to drink in Dubai

Non-Muslim visitors can enjoy alcoholic drinks only at hotels, restaurants, bars and other establishments with a licence to serve and sell alcohol.

●      Where to buy drinks in Dubai

African + Eastern, the biggest alcohol retailer in the UAE, has shops all over Dubai and boasts of an impressive collection and friendly prices. But you must possess a licence to buy from a liquor store in Dubai, take your purchase home, and store and consume it there.

To apply for an Alcohol Licence, you must be a non-Muslim, over 21 years old and have a minimum salary of AED 3,000.

Licence application is fairly fast and easy, and it can be made more efficient when you get help from a recognized Alcohol Licence service provider such as African + Eastern.

Reminders for Alcohol Licence Holders

Once you receive your Alcohol LIcence, make sure to respect and comply with your legal obligations as a licence holder. Commit to the conditions of your licence and always consume alcohol in a responsible manner.

– Follow your monthly spend limits as stated in your licence.

– Renew your licence once it reaches its 12-month validity period.

– Revalidate your licence if you change jobs or transfer to another company.

– Do not ride public transportation when carrying alcohol. Use a private vehicle when transporting alcohol you purchased from a store to your home or another private location.

– Never drink or openly carry alcohol in public spaces.

– Know that drunken behavior and drunk driving is illegal and can lead to arrest, heavy fines and other severe legal consequences.

Cheers! (Responsibly)

With your Alcohol Licence, you can say cheers in Dubai without worries. Schedule dinner and wine out with friends or simply hang out at home, beer in hand, as you relax for the day and recharge for the next exciting work week.
